Responding to Domestic Violence
Call 911 immediately if you believe that you are in danger of imminent harm. You may contact the lawyers at Hosford & Hosford once you reach a secure and safe location.
Typically, our approach is to seek a restraining order against the person who is abusing you. A restraining order—also known as a protective order—is a court order that restricts that person from certain behavior. This may include:
- Coming within a certain distance of you or your children.
- Going near your home, place of work, children’s schools / places of care, or vehicle.
- Contacting or calling you.
- Threatening, harassing, stalking, or attacking you.
- Owning or buying a gun.
A restraining order can force the person to move out of the home where the protected person lives and take only clothing and personal belongings until the court hearing. If the restrained person breaks the restraining order, he or she may face jail time, pay a fine, or both.
Hosford & Hosford prepares restraining orders and represents San Luis Obispo domestic violence clients at court hearings. Our lawyers understand the importance of achieving success in these cases, and we prepare diligently and work with commitment on behalf of our clients.
